It is fascinating to know Europeans have a long history of producing handmade rugs as well. One of the oldest hand made rugs made by the French is the Needlepoint rug. Due to increase of wages after recession in the 80s, production of the rug discontinued. History of Needlepoint rugs goes back to the seventeenth century when it decorated floors of French royal palaces as accredited with documentation from Louis XIV.
Needlepoint rugs have been in fashion for centuries and this technique has been shifted to other rug producing regions such as China under direct and careful supervision of French designers and artisans. These rugs usually are made on loom flat weave.
Due to limitation of production and high cost of manufacturing these products are not available in all rug stores and can be found only at upscale galleries at high prices.
